GAY! GAY! GAY!
Any ways FUCK YOU FUCKING GMAIL FUCK
Right.
Ill tell you about my last few weeks.
It has been a bit weird.
But it has now been looking up. I had been really stressed out. I have been passing my time listening to audio books of Harry Potter. Lol.
Yes. LAME, IM IN IRELAND I know. Yes, yes, but I refuse to waste my money until I have a stable job.
I have been searching for work like mad over the last few weeks. Spend about an hour everyday looking for work. Bleah…
I go around and hand in my “CV”, as they call it here. Some people happily take it, some people will say out right that they are not hiring and won’t take anything.
Yeah I felt dejected. It wasn’t nice. I kept trying anyways. I had applied for something called "Face2face" fundraising. They are a charity. Sort of.. Now Face2face are a group that are employed by charity groups. It could be Banrados or Oxfam or Focus Ireland.
We are employed to hit the streets and raise money by getting people to comitt to €12(AU$24) or €15(AU$30) or €24(AU$48) a month.
I was working for Focus Ireland. We were told about how to react with objective answers like, “I am already with another charity”, “the recession is not making it easier for us to live right now”, or “ we don’t feel confident giving out our bank details on the street.”
It was clever, nothing pushy. But I can see from an outsider’s point of view how we could be pushy.
Meanwhile, I get paid €9 an hour. Not too bad huh? Plus, if I get 6 sign ups, I get paid €15 and hour for that day. 10 I get like €20. Etc, Etc. It is more after my first few weeks of probation.
I travelled about 5 hours away from Cork to Dublin fro training. It was cool, meet some really nice people. I stayed at Lissa’s place. It is a very nice quaint place. I was so envious, Lol.
Anyways, my first day was the next day so I had to all the way back home, so I flew. It is cheaper but I couldn’t stand being in a bus for another 5 hours, and getting home at midnight.
SO! My first day, I am sure it wouldn’t have been so bad.., had it not been raining.., and -1 degrees.., and had a wind chill for -5 degrees…
It really was miserable. Haha. Ok I was really trying and I’m not trying make this sound like I’m crying. Hehe. It was really poo! The jackets they gave us were not water proof, and it was sooooooo cold.
I had people ignoring me, laughing sarcastically, I even had people stop and tank me and tell me I was doing something wonderful, and offer me some coffee in the cold.
Yeah it was very weird. Anyways the first few hours of the day had my team leader, Keri, called away. She had a family emergency in Dublin. So Keri was gone for two weeks. We had another girl there with us. Alice. She had been in Face2Face for ages, so she knew what to do. So the day went on. It was pretty bad. Each group is ment to have like, a 3 average of sign ups each day. It was 3pm and we had 0. We had trouble trying to stop people in the rain. I would look over at Alice every now and then, she was looking as put off as us. But I was a little bit disappointed. She didn’t look like she was trying very hard, but she did say to us enthusiastically, “I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOU GUYS OOKING GLOOMY!” But I would turn around and she would be talking to one of the other girls or smoking. Then Matty came along. Matt is a leader based in Dublin. He is like an area manager, and he is very good at the job. I watched him go up to Alice and chat to her for a while. Then about after 10 mins she took of her jacket, give him a hug and walked away.
He called us all over and told us he had been watching us for a while. He said “What ever happened today, take that, rip it out and throw it away. That’s not how the job is ment to be like. It’s a fucking awesome job, but it was your first day, your team leader had to go and the person who was next in charge was useless. I had to let Alice go.” We were shocked. Like she was fired! GONE! Shit man we didn’t see that coming. Sure I was like. Man she is a bit lazy but, ha! Matt said she had lost the passion and that without a team leader we had a problem. She was gone for 2 weeks at Dublin. And as result, if we wanted to keep working, we would have to either roam, (which is leave the current city and go else where) or stay here and wait for two weeks, until Keri came back from Dublin. I took that opportunity to get out and try to get a better job. But I also thought that if I can’t find anythgin I stay had something to fall back on.
I had a shit day that day. It really was, lol. But I came home and Jake had a nice warm bath and food and drinks waiting for me, what a fucking rock star.
I was dejected with all the people who ignored me and the crappy weather and all of that. The next few days rolled on. I was getting anxious over looking for a new job. I went to see the manger of Game stop personally and handed him my CV. He said that they were not looking for anything at the moment but other places in cork where. Like he said that and asked if it mattered where I was stationed. Hehe. But I got a call back within the next few days and had a mini interview with him the other day and he has asked me to come back and meet the area manager on the 16th ^_^
It turns out I know everything already, and they focus on the same things that EB Games do back at home. He said that right now in the best candidate for the job, and there are two positions to fill. YAY. Anyways best of luck to me.
Jake has also been looking for work. He was interviewed by a group called PMD marketing. They were telling him about how they can get him 10 years experience within 12 months. He was going to start his first day and he did a bit of research on them online. Turns out that they are a scam, they prey on people who they think have no access to the internet, like travellers and backpackers. Hire them, dump them in a random suburb and have them door knock door to door trying to sell internet packages and what not. He told them to shove it after he called them up and couldn’t make sense of all the stories they told him.
Ill be honest, its not so bad here. But its hard to enjoy when you are being fucking tight with your munnies, and the weather is crap. Mind you I have seen that a category 5 on its way to Brisbane but I’m sure that 26 degrees greater than 1 degrees, haha. We had a good night when we went to the local pub to watch the rugby union. Ireland Vs. England. What an atmosphere! We didn’t plan on staying long. Jake had a headache and I had to travel to Dublin for training the next day. We had a few drink.. well Jake had a few drinks and I had a few martinis.. haha. I took photos of that. I got pretty smashed hahaha SUPRICE! Meanwhile there where these chicks that were sitting at a table a little ways from us. I looked at them; they looked like they were about 20 or so. They were blond and actually didn’t look like tramps. Haha. Then while I waited for Jake to get me another drink, one of them stood in the light..
THEY WERE REALLY OLD. Like OH MY GOD THEY ARE LIKE 40 YEARS OLD….OLD!!
I thought i was seeing things and I told Jake. Jake was like.. “yeah.. they are really old”. And then I started getting really hyped up and about it. Me being me, and he’s all like “Oi.. don’t stare lol.”
I tried to take a photo of them, but Jake had to talk me out of it, oh man. Lol
Anyways I’m going.
